Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). Crew members are responsible for managing complex cargo operations, ensuring safe navigation, and maintaining vessel stability, integrity, and compliance with strict international maritime regulations. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, with each role playing a vital part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the vessel.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):
Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)
- Assist in the safe loading, transfer, and discharge of crude oil cargo according to ISGOTT (International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals) standards.
- Handle cargo hoses, transfer arms, and manifold connections during cargo operations, ensuring proper connections and leak prevention.
- Conduct inspections of cargo tanks, pipelines, and valves to identify leaks, corrosion, or structural issues.
- Assist with mooring, unmooring, and berthing operations at offshore terminals and ports, handling large, heavy mooring lines.
- Support tank cleaning, gas-freeing, and inerting of cargo tanks to prepare them for inspection, maintenance, or cargo changes.
- Maintain and repair deck equipment, including winches, cranes, safety gear, and lashing equipment.
- Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, oil spill response, and man-overboard recovery procedures.
Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)
- Operate, maintain, and repair propulsion systems, generators, and auxiliary machinery essential to ship operation.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of cargo handling systems, such as cargo pumps, compressors, and inert gas systems (IGS).
- Monitor and maintain the cargo containment system, including tank pressurization and IGS integrity.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems essential for cargo handling and ship propulsion.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections of essential shipboard machinery to prevent delays or operational failures.
- Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations regarding bilge water discharge, emissions, and waste management.
- Oversee the ship’s inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment to ensure operational readiness.
Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)
- Oversee navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping to ensure safe passage and compliance with international maritime regulations.
- Supervise cargo loading, discharging, and inerting operations, ensuring compliance with ISGOTT, IBC, and MARPOL standards.
- Ensure vessel stability and conduct ballasting and de-ballasting operations to maintain trim and stability during cargo handling.
- Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and terminal operators for berthing, unberthing, and cargo transfer operations.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency response drills for crew and cargo safety.
- Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship's safety management system (SMS).
- Oversee vessel security, access control, and adherence to the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, particularly for the handling of hazardous crude oil cargo.
- Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, oil spill containment, and man-overboard recovery procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safe working conditions in crew quarters, workspaces, and operational areas.
- Handle the physical and mental demands of working on a large vessel for extended periods, often in harsh weather and offshore environments.
- Comply with international maritime regulations, including MARPOL, ISGOTT, SOLAS, and ISPS, to ensure safe cargo handling and pollution prevention.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to support smooth vessel operations and the safe delivery of crude oil cargo.
