Martide’s partners are seeking skilled and proactive Third Engineers to join their engineering teams aboard various cargo ships and tankers. This role is essential in supporting the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of shipboard mechanical and technical systems. The Third Engineer works under the supervision of the Second Engineer and Chief Engineer, focusing on the operation and maintenance of auxiliary machinery, power generation, and critical safety equipment. This role is vital for ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the vessel’s engine room.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Auxiliary Machinery Operation & Maintenance: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of auxiliary systems, including generators, compressors, pumps, and fresh water production systems.
• Power Generation & Distribution: Assist with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the vessel’s power generation systems to ensure continuous electrical supply.
• Routine Inspections & Monitoring: Conduct daily checks on engine room equipment, including pressure, temperature, and fluid levels, and report any abnormalities to senior engineers.
• Lubrication & Fuel Systems: Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot fuel and lubrication systems, supporting fuel transfer and purification processes.
• Preventive Maintenance: Support the implementation of the ship’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS) by conducting scheduled maintenance and inspections on engine room equipment.
• Emergency Response & Support: Participate in emergency drills and support emergency response efforts, such as fire, flooding, or equipment failures, as part of the ship’s emergency response team.
• Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Adhere to shipboard health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring compliance with maritime safety protocols and international standards (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
• Record-Keeping & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections, ensuring compliance with the ship's Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and audit requirements.
• Spare Parts & Inventory Management: Monitor the availability of spare parts, consumables, and equipment required for maintenance, ensuring items are available for repair tasks.
• Training & Mentorship: Provide guidance to junior engineers, engine cadets, and motormen, supporting the development of technical skills and knowledge.
• Equipment Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and resolve technical faults with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to ensure minimal downtime and uninterrupted vessel operations.

Collaboration with Engineering Team: Work closely with the Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, and other technical crew members to ensure efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of shipboard systems.
