Martide’s partners are seeking skilled maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard specialized cargo ships. Crew members play a critical role in managing cargo handling, securing operations, vessel maintenance, and ensuring compliance with maritime safety and regulatory standards. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, with each role contributing to the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of specialized cargo.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun, Cargo Operators)

• Assist with the safe loading, securing, and unloading of specialized cargo, including heavy equipment, project cargo, and oversized loads.
• Operate and maintain specialized cargo handling equipment such as gantry cranes, forklifts, and hydraulic lifting systems.
• Inspect cargo lashings, securing points, and cargo fittings to ensure proper weight distribution and cargo integrity.
• Support mooring, unmooring, and berthing operations, handling mooring lines and assisting with fenders.
• Conduct deck maintenance, including cleaning, rust removal, painting, and repair of essential deck equipment.
• Assist with the setup and use of lifting gear, slings, and spreader bars for oversized cargo.
• Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, man-overboard, and abandon-ship procedures.

Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

• Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems.
• Support the operation and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic cargo handling equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair essential shipboard systems, such as ballast systems, cranes, winches, and lifting devices.
• Monitor the ship’s power generation and energy consumption to ensure efficient operations.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on essential shipboard machinery to ensure cargo handling systems remain operational.
• Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations on bilge water discharge, emissions, and waste management.
• Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair supplies to ensure continuous operational readiness.

Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

• Oversee safe navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping in compliance with international maritime regulations.
• Supervise and coordinate cargo loading, unloading, and securing of specialized and oversized cargo.
• Conduct risk assessments and safety briefings before cargo operations to ensure safe handling of large or unconventional cargo.
• Plan and oversee ballast and de-ballast operations to maintain vessel stability and trim during cargo operations.
• Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and terminal operators for berthing, unberthing, and cargo handling.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship’s safety management system (SMS).
• Oversee vessel security, access control, and compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

• Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, particularly for the handling of heavy, oversized, or hazardous cargo.
• Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, man-overboard, and evacuation procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safe working conditions in crew quarters, workspaces, and operational areas.
• Handle the physical and mental demands of working on a ship transporting heavy and unconventional cargo.
• Comply with international maritime regulations, such as MARPOL, SOLAS, and ISPS, to ensure safe cargo handling and pollution prevention.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to support smooth vessel operations and the safe delivery of specialized cargo.
