Martide’s partners are seeking skilled and proactive Seismic Maintenance Assistants to join their technical teams aboard research ships. This role is essential to the maintenance, repair, and operation of seismic survey equipment and related systems. Seismic Maintenance Assistants work under the supervision of senior technicians and surveyors to ensure that all seismic instruments, cables, and recording devices are in optimal working condition. Their support is critical to the success of marine seismic surveys, which gather crucial subsurface data for scientific research and offshore exploration.

Key responsibilities generally include:

  • Maintenance & Repair of Seismic Equipment: Assist in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of seismic equipment, including streamers, hydrophones, sensors, and acoustic devices.
    • Equipment Setup & Deployment: Support the deployment and retrieval of seismic streamers, underwater sensors, and other survey equipment, ensuring proper setup and alignment.
      • System Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve malfunctions in seismic equipment, cables, and electronic systems, minimizing downtime and operational delays.
        • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine checks and scheduled maintenance of seismic systems, ensuring all components are fully operational and ready for deployment.
          • Cable Management & Handling: Handle seismic streamer cables, ensuring proper storage, spooling, and inspection to prevent damage or wear.
            • Electronics Support: Assist with the maintenance and repair of electronic control systems, data loggers, and onboard data acquisition systems.
              • Data Acquisition Support: Provide technical assistance during seismic survey operations, ensuring equipment is functioning correctly to support accurate data collection.
                • Safety & Compliance: Follow shipboard health, safety, and environmental protocols, ensuring safe handling of equipment and compliance with maritime safety regulations.
                  • Inventory & Spare Parts Management: Support the management of spare parts, consumables, and essential tools to ensure equipment availability for maintenance and repair tasks.
                    • Emergency Response: Assist in emergency response activities, such as equipment failures or operational disruptions, ensuring quick resolution and minimal impact on seismic surveys.
                      • Team Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with seismic surveyors, geophysicists, and technical crew to ensure the successful completion of survey missions.

                        Record-Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and repair tasks, supporting operational reports and audit compliance.
