Martide’s partners are seeking skilled maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) cargo ships. Crew members play a critical role in ensuring the safe loading, lashing, and unloading of cargo, while maintaining vessel stability, operational safety, and regulatory compliance. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, with each role contributing to the safe, efficient, and timely transport of cargo.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun, Cargo Operators)

  • Assist with the safe loading, lashing, and unloading of wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, and trailers.
    • Operate and maintain cargo handling equipment, such as ramps, elevators, and hydraulic deck lifts.
      • Inspect and secure wheeled cargo using lashings, wheel chocks, and securing devices according to cargo plans.
        • Conduct pre-sailing checks of cargo lashings and security to ensure stability during the voyage.
          • Assist with mooring, unmooring, and berthing operations at port, handling mooring lines and fenders.
            • Carry out deck maintenance, including cleaning, rust removal, painting, and equipment repair.
              • Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, man-overboard, and abandon-ship procedures.

                Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

                • Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems.
                  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of cargo ramps, deck lifts, and hydraulic systems used for cargo movement.
                    • Monitor and maintain ventilation and exhaust systems to ensure proper airflow in enclosed cargo decks.
                      • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures in propulsion and auxiliary systems.
                        • Conduct preventive maintenance on critical shipboard machinery to avoid delays and maintain operational readiness.
                          • Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations on bilge water, emissions, and waste management.
                            • Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.

                              Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

                              • Oversee navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping in compliance with international maritime regulations.
                                • Supervise and coordinate cargo operations, including loading, lashing, and unloading of wheeled cargo.
                                  • Ensure vessel stability and trim are maintained during cargo operations by supervising ballasting and de-ballasting.
                                    • Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and terminal operators to ensure smooth berthing and cargo handling.
                                      • Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency response drills for crew and cargo safety.
                                        • Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship’s safety management system (SMS).
                                          • Oversee vessel security, access control, and adherence to the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

                                            General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

                                            • Comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, especially in the handling of wheeled cargo.
                                              • Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, rescue, and evacuation procedures.
                                                • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safe working conditions in crew quarters, workspaces, and operational areas.
                                                  • Handle the physical and mental demands of working in an enclosed, fast-paced, and regulated cargo environment.
                                                    • Comply with international maritime regulations, such as MARPOL, SOLAS, and ISPS, to ensure safe cargo handling and pollution prevention.
                                                      • Support teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to ensure smooth vessel operations.
