Martide’s partners are seeking experienced and technically skilled Refrigeration Engineers to join their engineering teams aboard various cargo ships. This role is essential to ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the ship's refrigeration and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The Refrigeration Engineer is responsible for the performance of refrigeration units used for cargo preservation, crew welfare, and vessel climate control.

Key responsibilities generally include:

  • Operation of Refrigeration Systems: Monitor, operate, and maintain refrigeration and HVAC systems, ensuring optimal performance for cargo preservation and onboard climate control.
    • System Maintenance & Repairs: Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair of refrigeration units, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated control systems.
      • Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis: Identify, diagnose, and resolve malfunctions or failures in refrigeration and HVAC systems to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
        • Temperature Control & Monitoring: Maintain and monitor cargo hold temperatures to ensure perishable cargo is stored within required temperature ranges.
          • Compressor & Cooling System Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of compressors, cooling units, and chillers used in cargo and crew accommodation areas.
            • Refrigerant Handling & Compliance: Ensure the safe handling, recovery, and replacement of refrigerants, following environmental regulations such as MARPOL and F-Gas regulations.
              • Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Adhere to shipboard health, safety, and environmental standards, supporting compliance with international maritime regulations and company policies.
                • Equipment Calibration & Testing: Conduct routine calibration and performance tests on temperature sensors, thermostats, and system controls to ensure accuracy and functionality.
                  • Spare Parts & Inventory Management: Monitor and manage the availability of spare parts, refrigerants, and consumables required for system maintenance and emergency repairs.
                    • Emergency Response Support: Provide technical support during emergency situations, such as system malfunctions, fires, or refrigeration failures, as part of the ship’s emergency response team.
                      • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of system maintenance, refrigerant usage, and inspections, supporting compliance with shipboard audits and inspections.
                        • Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, electricians, and deck crew to support shipboard operations, repairs, and maintenance tasks.
