Martide’s partners are seeking skilled maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard refrigerated cargo ships (reefers). Crew members are responsible for maintaining cargo integrity, operating temperature control systems, and ensuring safe navigation, vessel stability, and regulatory compliance. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each playing a vital role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and timely transport of refrigerated cargo.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)

• Assist in the loading, securing, and unloading of refrigerated cargo, following the ship's cargo plan.
• Handle and maintain cargo lashing equipment, such as twist locks, lashings, and dunnage.
• Support cargo inspection and monitoring, checking for signs of temperature deviations, damage, or contamination.
• Handle and secure cargo in the holds, ensuring proper airflow and weight distribution.
• Assist with mooring, unmooring, and berthing operations, ensuring safe handling of mooring lines.
• Perform deck maintenance, including cleaning, rust removal, painting, and equipment repair.
• Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, man-overboard, and abandon-ship procedures.

Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

• Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of refrigeration units, compressors, and temperature control systems.
• Monitor and manage the cargo hold's temperature, humidity, and ventilation to ensure the quality of perishable cargo.
• Troubleshoot and repair issues with refrigeration and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on essential shipboard equipment to prevent delays and maintain operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations on emissions, bilge water discharge, and waste management.
• Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.

Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

• Oversee navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping to ensure safe passage and compliance with maritime regulations.
• Supervise the loading, unloading, and stowage of refrigerated cargo, ensuring proper cargo handling and temperature management.
• Plan and manage ballast and de-ballast operations to maintain vessel stability during cargo operations.
• Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and stevedores to ensure smooth berthing, cargo handling, and port operations.
• Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency drills with the crew.
• Monitor compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship’s safety management system (SMS).
• Oversee vessel security, access control, and compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

• Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, especially in the handling of perishable and temperature-sensitive cargo.
• Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, rescue, and abandon-ship procedures.
• Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and safe working conditions in all areas of the vessel, including crew quarters and workspaces.
• Monitor and maintain the temperature and condition of cargo holds to prevent spoilage or cargo loss.
• Comply with international regulations, including MARPOL, SOLAS, and ISPS standards for cargo handling and pollution prevention.
• Handle the physical and mental demands of working in a cold, confined, and highly regulated environment.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to ensure smooth vessel operations and timely delivery of cargo.
