Martide’s partners are seeking experienced and skilled Pumpmen to join their teams aboard various cargo ships and tankers. This role is essential to the safe and efficient handling of cargo, ballast, and fuel transfer operations. The Pumpman is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, valves, pipelines, and associated cargo handling equipment. Working under the supervision of the Chief Officer, the Pumpman ensures the smooth flow of cargo and ballast while maintaining the integrity of shipboard systems.
Key responsibilities generally include:
- Cargo Pump Operations: Operate, monitor, and control the ship's cargo pumps, ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of liquid cargo during loading, unloading, and tank cleaning operations.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Inspect, maintain, and repair cargo pumps, valves, pipelines, and associated equipment to ensure operational efficiency and prevent breakdowns.
- Valve & Pipeline Management: Operate and maintain cargo and ballast control valves, ensuring proper alignment and flow for cargo transfer and ballast management.
- Tank Cleaning & Preparation: Assist with tank cleaning and gas-freeing operations to prepare cargo tanks for inspection, maintenance, or product changes.
- Cargo Transfer Support: Monitor cargo flow rates, pressure, and temperature during loading and discharge operations, ensuring compliance with cargo plans and safety protocols.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to international maritime safety and environmental regulations (e.g., MARPOL, ISGOTT) during all cargo and ballast handling operations.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies such as spills, leaks, or pump malfunctions, supporting the crew in mitigating and resolving critical issues.
- Equipment Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of cargo handling systems, ensuring all pumps, valves, and pipelines are in good working condition.
- Spare Parts & Inventory Management: Monitor and manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables required for pump maintenance and repair tasks.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Follow shipboard health, safety, and environmental protocols, ensuring compliance with company policies and international maritime regulations.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and operational activities, supporting shipboard audits and inspections.
- Collaboration with Deck Officers: Work closely with the Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, and deck crew to ensure smooth coordination of cargo, ballast, and tank operations.
