Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard merchant tankers.  Crew members are responsible for the safe handling, transfer, and discharge of liquid cargo, as well as ensuring vessel stability, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each contributing to the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the vessel.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)

  • Assist in the safe loading, transfer, and discharge of oil, chemical, or petroleum products in line with ISGOTT (International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals) standards.
    • Handle cargo hoses, transfer arms, and manifold connections to ensure leak-free cargo transfer.
      • Conduct inspections of cargo tanks, pipelines, and valves to identify potential leaks, corrosion, or damage.
        • Assist in mooring and unmooring operations, handling mooring lines and ensuring safe berthing procedures.
          • Clean, gas-free, and inert cargo tanks to prepare them for new cargo or inspection.
            • Maintain deck equipment, including cleaning, rust removal, painting, and lashing gear maintenance.
              • Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, oil spill containment, and man-overboard procedures.

                Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

                • Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems.
                  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of cargo handling systems, such as pumps, compressors, and inert gas systems (IGS).
                    • Monitor and maintain cargo containment, pressurization, and temperature control systems.
                      • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and cryogenic systems essential to cargo handling.
                        • Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations for bilge water discharge, emissions control, and waste management.
                          • Conduct preventive maintenance on critical machinery to avoid delays and ensure operational readiness.
                            • Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring essential tools and emergency repair supplies are always available.

                              Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

                              • Oversee the safe navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping to ensure compliance with international regulations.
                                • Supervise cargo loading, discharging, and inerting operations in accordance with the IBC (International Bulk Chemical) Code and MARPOL standards.
                                  • Monitor vessel stability, trim, and ballast operations to maintain safe cargo handling conditions.
                                    • Coordinate berthing, anchoring, and pilotage operations with port authorities, pilots, and terminal operators.
                                      • Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency response drills for crew and cargo safety.
                                        • Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship’s safety management system (SMS).
                                          • Oversee vessel security, access control, and compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

                                            General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

                                            • Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, especially in the handling of hazardous cargo.
                                              • Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, oil spill containment, and man-overboard procedures.
                                                • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safe working conditions in crew living quarters, workspaces, and operational areas.
                                                  • Comply with international maritime regulations, including ISGOTT, IBC, and MARPOL standards for cargo handling and pollution prevention.
                                                    • Handle the physical and mental demands of working in a hazardous, confined, and highly regulated environment.
                                                      • Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to support smooth shipboard operations.
