Martide’s partners are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Ordinary Seamen (TOS) to join their deck teams aboard various merchant ships and tankers. This entry-level role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in deck operations, vessel maintenance, and maritime safety procedures. Trainee Ordinary Seamen work under the supervision of senior crew members, including the Bosun, Able Seamen, and Deck Officers, while building the foundational skills needed for a long-term career at sea.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• On-the-Job Training & Skill Development: Participate in practical, hands-on training to learn key shipboard tasks, including mooring, anchoring, and deck maintenance.
• Deck Maintenance & Cleaning: Assist with cleaning, chipping, scraping, and painting ship surfaces to maintain the vessel’s appearance and prevent corrosion.
• Cargo Handling Support: Help load, unload, and secure cargo during port calls, following safety guidelines and under the supervision of senior crew.
• Line Handling & Mooring Operations: Support mooring and unmooring activities, including handling ropes, heaving lines, and fenders during port entry, departure, and anchoring.
• Equipment Handling & Storage: Assist with the proper handling, maintenance, and storage of deck equipment, tools, and gear to ensure readiness for shipboard tasks.
• Watchkeeping Duties: Support lookout duties on the bridge, assisting in monitoring surrounding vessels, navigational hazards, and changes in weather conditions.
• Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Participate in emergency drills and respond to real-time incidents, such as man-overboard, fire, or collision situations, as part of the ship's emergency response team.
• Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Follow maritime safety and environmental protocols, supporting shipboard compliance with international regulations and company policies.
• General Housekeeping: Assist in cleaning crew accommodation areas, communal spaces, and recreational areas to maintain a hygienic and safe living environment.
• Assistance to Deck Crew: Support the Deck Officers, Bosun, and Able Seamen in daily tasks, including operational support, maintenance, and housekeeping duties.
• Career Development & Learning: Participate in structured learning programs, practical assignments, and mentorship from senior crew to prepare for future certification as an Ordinary Seaman.
