Martide’s partners are seeking dependable Oilers to join their engineering teams aboard various merchant ships and tankers. This role is essential to the daily operation, maintenance, and lubrication of the ship’s engine room machinery and auxiliary systems. Oilers work under the supervision of senior engineers to ensure the vessel's mechanical systems run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Key responsibilities generally include:
- Lubrication of Machinery: Lubricate main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors, and other moving parts to ensure smooth and efficient operation of all mechanical systems.
- Routine Equipment Checks: Conduct daily inspections of machinery, including engines, boilers, and auxiliary systems, to identify potential issues or signs of wear.
- Assist with Maintenance & Repairs: Support engineers in routine maintenance, repairs, and overhaul of machinery, ensuring minimal disruption to vessel operations.
- Operation of Engine Room Equipment: Assist with the operation and control of pumps, compressors, generators, and other auxiliary systems to ensure smooth vessel operations.
- Monitoring System Performance: Monitor engine room gauges, indicators, and control systems, reporting anomalies or irregularities to senior engineers.
- Cleaning & Upkeep of Engine Room: Maintain cleanliness and order in the engine room, removing waste, oil spills, and other hazards to create a safe working environment.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow shipboard health, safety, and environmental protocols, ensuring adherence to international maritime regulations and company safety policies.
- Fuel Transfer Support: Support fuel transfer and bunkering operations, ensuring proper handling, storage, and monitoring of fuel systems.
- Emergency Response: Participate in emergency drills and respond to real-time incidents, such as engine failures, fires, or flooding, as part of the ship’s emergency response team.
- Spare Parts & Inventory Support: Assist in managing spare parts, tools, and consumables required for lubrication and maintenance tasks, ensuring stock availability.
- Logbook & Documentation: Record lubrication, maintenance, and inspection activities in the ship’s engineering logs and planned maintenance system (PMS).
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, electricians, and deck crew to support daily shipboard operations and ensure cross-departmental coordination.
