Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard oil tankers.  Crew members play a critical role in ensuring the safe handling, transfer, and discharge of liquid cargo while maintaining vessel stability, environmental protection, and compliance with international maritime regulations. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each supporting the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant operation of the vessel.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)

  • Assist in the safe loading, transfer, and discharge of crude oil and petroleum products following MARPOL and ISGOTT guidelines.
    • Handle and maintain cargo hoses, transfer arms, and manifold connections during cargo operations.
      • Conduct visual inspections of cargo tanks, pipelines, valves, and deck fittings to detect leaks or defects.
        • Support mooring, unmooring, and berthing operations, ensuring safe handling of mooring lines.
          • Carry out routine tank cleaning, gas-freeing, and inerting of cargo tanks before loading new cargo.
            • Perform deck maintenance, including cleaning, painting, rust removal, and repair of essential deck equipment.
              • Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, oil spill response, and man-overboard recovery.

                Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

                • Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary machinery.
                  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of cargo handling systems, such as cargo pumps, valves, and inert gas systems (IGS).
                    • Monitor and manage cargo containment systems to ensure the safe storage and transfer of oil cargo.
                      • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems essential for cargo handling.
                        • Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations on emissions, bilge water discharge, and pollution prevention.
                          • Conduct preventive maintenance on critical shipboard machinery to avoid delays or mechanical failures.
                            • Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.

                              Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

                              • Oversee navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping to ensure safe passage and compliance with maritime regulations.
                                • Supervise and coordinate cargo operations, including loading, discharging, and tank cleaning activities.
                                  • Manage vessel stability and trim through ballast and de-ballast operations during cargo handling.
                                    • Coordinate with terminal operators, pilots, and port authorities to ensure safe berthing and cargo transfer.
                                      • Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and toolbox talks to ensure the crew understands operational hazards.
                                        • Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship's safety management system (SMS).
                                          • Monitor vessel security and access control in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

                                            General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

                                            • Follow health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, especially for hazardous oil cargo handling.
                                              • Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, oil spill containment, and man-overboard procedures.
                                                • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in all areas of the vessel, including crew quarters and workspaces.
                                                  • Comply with international maritime regulations, such as the ISGOTT (International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals) and MARPOL standards.
                                                    • Handle the physical and mental demands of working with hazardous cargo in a confined, highly regulated environment.
                                                      • Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to support the smooth operation of the vessel.
