Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard oil/chemical tankers. Crew members play a crucial role in ensuring the safe transfer, storage, and discharge of liquid cargo, while maintaining vessel stability, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each supporting the efficient, safe, and regulatory-compliant operation of the vessel.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):
Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)
- Assist with the safe loading, transfer, and discharge of liquid cargo, following the IBC (International Bulk Chemical) Code and MARPOL regulations.
- Handle cargo hoses, connections, and manifold operations, ensuring secure and leak-free connections.
- Conduct visual inspections of cargo tanks, valves, and pipelines to detect leaks or mechanical issues.
- Assist with mooring and unmooring operations at ports and offshore terminals, handling mooring lines.
- Perform cleaning, gas-freeing, and inerting of cargo tanks to prepare them for new cargo.
- Carry out routine deck maintenance, including cleaning, rust removal, painting, and maintenance of deck equipment.
- Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, chemical spill containment, and evacuation procedures.
Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)
- Operate, maintain, and repair the ship’s propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary machinery.
- Support the operation and maintenance of cargo handling systems, pumps, valves, and heating systems for oil and chemical cargo.
- Monitor and maintain cargo containment and pressurization systems to ensure cargo safety and quality.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and cryogenic systems used for cargo handling.
- Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations on bilge water, emissions, and waste management.
- Perform preventive maintenance on essential shipboard equipment to prevent delays and maintain readiness.
- Manage spare parts inventory and oversee procurement of essential repair tools and equipment.
Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)
- Oversee navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping in compliance with international maritime regulations.
- Supervise cargo loading, discharging, inerting, and tank cleaning operations to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Ensure cargo stowage and vessel stability are maintained through ballast and de-ballast operations.
- Coordinate berthing, anchoring, and pilotage operations with port authorities, pilots, and terminal operators.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and toolbox talks prior to cargo handling and transfer operations.
- Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship's safety management system (SMS).
- Monitor vessel security and access control in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, especially for hazardous cargo handling.
- Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, chemical spill containment, and rescue operations.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in all areas of the vessel, including crew quarters and workspaces.
- Ensure compliance with international regulations, including the IBC (International Bulk Chemical) Code and the International Gas Carrier (IGC) Code.
- Handle the physical and mental demands of working with hazardous cargo in a confined, highly regulated environment.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism to support the smooth operation of the vessel.
