Martide’s partners are seeking detail-oriented and dedicated Observer Operators to join their teams aboard various merchant ships. This role is essential for supporting the collection, monitoring, and reporting of operational, environmental, and navigational data. Observer Operators work under the supervision of the Chief Observer, ensuring that all required data is accurately gathered, recorded, and submitted according to maritime regulations and company procedures.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Data Collection & Monitoring: Collect and monitor real-time data on navigation, weather, ocean conditions, and environmental factors using specialized equipment and observation tools.
• Bridge Support: Assist the bridge team by providing navigational data, such as weather, visibility, sea state, and environmental conditions, to support safe passage.
• Use of Observation Equipment: Operate and monitor instruments such as weather sensors, ECDIS, radar, and oceanographic equipment, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
• Compliance with Environmental Regulations: Support compliance with environmental regulations, such as MARPOL, by monitoring ballast water discharge, emissions, and fuel consumption.
• Equipment Maintenance & Calibration: Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of observation equipment, ensuring all instruments are functioning correctly and accurately.
• Data Recording & Documentation: Accurately log and maintain observation data in records, reports, and logbooks, supporting shipboard audits and compliance checks.
• Weather Monitoring & Forecasting: Monitor weather conditions and provide timely weather updates to the bridge team, assisting with voyage planning and route adjustments.
• Emergency Response Support: Assist with data collection and real-time monitoring during emergency situations, supporting the bridge team’s decision-making process.
• Environmental Monitoring & Reporting: Track and report on environmental data related to water quality, emissions, and fuel consumption to ensure compliance with international maritime regulations.
• Communication & Coordination: Liaise with the Chief Observer, bridge officers, and other shipboard teams to ensure accurate data reporting and seamless operational support.
• Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Follow shipboard health, safety, and environmental standards, promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship on board.
