Martide’s partners are seeking skilled and detail-oriented Navigator Operators to join their bridge teams aboard various merchant ships. This role is essential for supporting the safe navigation, route monitoring, and operational efficiency of the vessel. The Navigator Operator works under the supervision of senior officers, assisting with bridge watchkeeping, navigation system operation, and compliance with international maritime regulations.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Bridge Watchkeeping Support: Assist with bridge watchkeeping duties, including monitoring navigational instruments, vessel position, and potential traffic hazards.
• Navigation System Operation: Operate and monitor bridge equipment such as radar, ECDIS, GPS, AIS, gyrocompass, and other navigation systems to ensure safe passage.
• Route Monitoring & Positioning: Continuously monitor the vessel’s course, speed, and position, ensuring alignment with the passage plan and making course adjustments as required.
• Risk Management & Collision Avoidance: Assist with collision avoidance procedures, monitoring nearby vessels, weather, and obstacles to ensure safe navigation.
• Chart Updates & Maintenance: Support the correction and maintenance of paper and electronic charts, ensuring all navigation publications are up to date and regulatory compliant.
• Logbook & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate watchkeeping and navigation records, including voyage position logs and any deviations from the passage plan.
• Compliance with Maritime Regulations: Follow international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS and COLREGs) as well as company policies related to safe navigation and watchkeeping.
• Emergency Response: Participate in emergency drills and respond to incidents such as collision, grounding, or man-overboard situations, supporting the emergency response team.
• Communication & Reporting: Communicate with Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), port authorities, and pilot stations as required for port entry, departure, and in-transit updates.
• Support to Senior Officers: Assist the Chief Navigator, Chief Officer, and Master with navigational duties, reporting system malfunctions and operational issues as needed.
