Martide’s partners are seeking experienced and highly skilled Chief Navigators to join their teams aboard various merchant ships. This senior role is critical to the safe navigation, route planning, and overall operational efficiency of the vessel. The Chief Navigator is responsible for overseeing the ship’s navigational activities, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and providing guidance to the deck officers and bridge crew.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Voyage Planning & Route Optimization: Develop and oversee the ship’s passage plan, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective routes are selected based on weather, traffic, and navigational hazards.
• Bridge Operations Supervision: Lead the bridge team, ensuring proper watchkeeping, navigation, and communication practices are maintained during the vessel’s passage.
• Navigation Systems Management: Oversee the use and maintenance of navigational equipment, including radar, ECDIS, GPS, gyrocompass, and other bridge control systems.
• Compliance with International Maritime Regulations: Ensure full compliance with international maritime laws (such as SOLAS and COLREGs), as well as flag state, port state, and company policies.
• Chart & Publications Management: Ensure all navigational charts, publications, and digital updates are current, accurate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
• Safety & Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments for navigational routes, weather conditions, and traffic density, ensuring proactive adjustments are made to avoid potential hazards.
• Emergency Response & Crisis Management: Take command of navigation during emergency situations, such as collision avoidance, man-overboard, and grounding incidents, ensuring the crew follows emergency protocols.
• Training & Mentorship: Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to junior officers and deck cadets, ensuring bridge team members are competent in navigation and watchkeeping duties.
• Logbook & Record-Keeping: Ensure that navigational logs, watchkeeping records, and other operational documentation are accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory standards.
• Coordination with Port Authorities: Communicate with port authorities, pilot stations, and vessel traffic services (VTS) to ensure the ship's safe entry, departure, and movement within ports and harbors.

Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the Master, Chief Officer, and engine room officers to ensure smooth and coordinated shipboard operations.
