Martide’s partners are seeking experienced and technically proficient Mechanic Shift Leads to oversee the mechanical operations aboard their cargo ships and tankers. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the ship's mechanical systems during assigned shifts. As a senior member of the engineering team, the Mechanic Shift Lead supervises mechanical operators, coordinates maintenance activities, and ensures that machinery and equipment remain operational at all times.

Key responsibilities generally include:

  • Shift Supervision & Leadership: Oversee the mechanical team during assigned shifts, ensuring all maintenance, repairs, and operational tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
    • Mechanical System Oversight: Supervise the operation, inspection, and maintenance of main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical equipment essential to vessel performance.
      • Equipment Troubleshooting & Repairs: Lead the identification, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical system malfunctions, ensuring timely resolutions to minimize downtime.
        • Hydraulic & Pneumatic System Supervision: Oversee the operation and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems critical to cargo handling, mooring, and shipboard operations.
          • Preventive Maintenance Coordination: Implement and manage scheduled preventive maintenance programs to ensure all mechanical systems are fully operational and meet regulatory standards.
            • Safety & Compliance Leadership: Ensure strict adherence to maritime safety, health, and environmental standards, fostering a culture of safety and compliance within the engineering team.
              • Emergency Response Leadership: Act as the lead response officer during emergencies, such as mechanical failures, system breakdowns, or engine room incidents, ensuring the crew takes timely and effective action.
                • Spare Parts & Inventory Management: Coordinate the inventory of spare parts, consumables, and critical equipment, ensuring timely replenishment to avoid operational delays.
                  • Team Training & Mentorship: Support the development and training of junior mechanics, providing guidance and technical support to ensure high performance and operational excellence.
                    • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate shift reports, logbooks, and maintenance records, ensuring all activities are documented in the ship’s planned maintenance system (PMS).
                      • Collaboration with Senior Officers: Work closely with the Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, and deck officers to ensure smooth coordination of shipboard operations and technical support.
