Martide’s partners are looking for dedicated and motivated Junior Engine Cadets to join their engineering teams aboard cargo ships, bulk carriers, and tankers. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in shipboard engineering, supporting the maintenance and operation of essential machinery and technical systems. Under the guidance of senior engineers, cadets develop technical skills and practical knowledge to prepare for a future career as a qualified marine engineer.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Assisting with Maintenance & Repairs: Support senior engineers in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of engine room machinery, auxiliary systems, and propulsion equipment.
• Routine Inspections & Checks: Conduct routine checks on essential systems, such as engines, boilers, compressors, and pumps, ensuring they operate within safe and efficient parameters.
• Cleaning & Upkeep of Engine Room: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the engine room, ensuring a safe and hazard-free working environment.
• Operation of Machinery: Assist in the safe operation of key equipment, including main engines, auxiliary engines, generators, and water systems, under the supervision of senior engineers.
• Safety & Compliance: Adhere to shipboard health, safety, and environmental protocols, following international maritime safety standards and company procedures.
• Emergency Response: Participate in emergency drills and respond to real-time incidents, such as fire, flood, or mechanical failures, as part of the ship’s emergency response team.
• Record-Keeping & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, inspections, and system checks, ensuring compliance with ship and maritime regulatory requirements.
• Learning & Development: Take part in training sessions, practical assignments, and on-the-job learning to build technical expertise and prepare for future certification as a marine engineer.
• Spare Parts & Inventory Support: Assist in tracking and managing spare parts, tools, and consumables, ensuring availability for maintenance and repair activities.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineering officers, electricians, and deck crew to ensure smooth vessel operations and support cross-functional tasks as required.
