Martide’s partners are seeking motivated and ambitious Junior Deck Cadets to join their crew aboard cargo ships and tankers. This entry-level role provides an opportunity for cadets to gain hands-on experience and develop the skills needed to advance their maritime careers. Working under the guidance of senior deck officers, Junior Deck Cadets support vessel operations, navigation, and cargo handling while learning the essential duties required for future officer roles.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Bridge Watchkeeping Assistance: Support deck officers with bridge watchkeeping duties, including monitoring navigational instruments, recording vessel position, and assisting with lookout duties.
• Navigation Support: Assist in voyage planning, chart corrections, and the use of navigational aids to ensure the safe passage of the vessel.
• Cargo Operations: Participate in cargo loading, stowage, and discharge operations, ensuring compliance with cargo handling procedures and safety protocols.
• Safety & Security Checks: Conduct safety rounds, checking life-saving, firefighting, and emergency equipment to ensure they are in good working order.
• Shipboard Maintenance: Assist in routine deck maintenance, such as painting, cleaning, and minor repairs, to ensure the vessel remains shipshape.
• Emergency Response: Participate in emergency drills and support emergency response activities, such as man-overboard or fire-fighting procedures.
• Learning & Development: Take part in structured training programs, on-the-job learning, and practical assignments to build technical and leadership skills.
• Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Follow shipboard health, safety, and environmental guidelines, contributing to a safe working environment for the crew.
• Logbook & Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining accurate records of navigational activities, maintenance, and operational tasks as required by deck officers.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with deck officers, engineers, and crew members to support daily shipboard operations and achieve operational goals.
