Martide’s partners are looking for skilled and detail-oriented Hydrographic Surveyors to join their research teams aboard survey and research vessels. This role is essential to the success of marine exploration, seabed mapping, and oceanographic studies. Hydrographic Surveyors are responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting hydrographic data to support scientific research, offshore development, and navigation safety.

Key responsibilities generally include:

  • Survey Operations: Plan, execute, and oversee hydrographic survey operations, including bathymetric, geophysical, and seabed mapping activities.
    • Data Collection & Analysis: Operate and manage hydrographic equipment, such as multibeam echosounders, side-scan sonar, and sub-bottom profilers, ensuring high-quality data collection.
      • Equipment Calibration & Maintenance: Conduct equipment calibrations, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure survey instruments are functioning correctly.
        • Data Processing & Interpretation: Process, analyze, and validate survey data, using specialized hydrographic software to create detailed maps, models, and reports.
          • Charting & Reporting: Produce hydrographic charts, seabed classification maps, and survey reports, supporting research objectives and maritime safety initiatives.
            • Navigation & Positioning Support: Ensure accurate vessel positioning using GNSS and other navigation systems, coordinating with the vessel's bridge team during survey operations.
              • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to maritime health, safety, and environmental protocols during survey operations, supporting safe shipboard practices and equipment use.
                • Collaborative Research: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including oceanographers, marine geologists, and engineers, to achieve research and exploration goals.
                  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in hydrographic survey technology, equipment, and best practices.
                    • Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of survey activities, equipment usage, and data collection processes to support regulatory compliance and project reporting.
