Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard heavy load carriers. Crew members play a critical role in ensuring the safe loading, securing, and discharge of heavy cargo, as well as managing vessel stability and operational safety. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each playing a vital role in supporting the safe, efficient, and timely execution of complex cargo operations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):
Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)
- Assist in the handling, securing, and stowage of heavy and oversized cargo using specialized equipment such as lifting slings, chains, and securing blocks.
- Operate deck machinery such as cranes, winches, and hydraulic lifting equipment for cargo handling.
- Ensure proper lashing and securing of cargo in compliance with the ship’s Cargo Securing Manual and safety standards.
- Conduct visual inspections of lifting equipment, lashings, and securing gear, reporting any defects or damage.
- Assist in ballasting operations to maintain vessel stability during heavy cargo loading and discharge.
- Carry out routine deck maintenance, including cleaning, painting, rust removal, and repair of equipment.
- Support vessel mooring, unmooring, and berthing operations at port or offshore loading sites.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental protocols, wear PPE, and participate in emergency response drills.
Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)
- Operate, maintain, and repair the ship’s propulsion systems, power generation, and auxiliary machinery.
- Support the operation and maintenance of hydraulic lifting systems, ballast systems, and deck machinery.
- Monitor and maintain heavy lifting gear, cargo securing winches, and equipment used for load transfer.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures to avoid operational delays.
- Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations regarding bilge water discharge, emissions, and waste management.
- Supervise fuel and lubricant usage, ensuring efficient consumption and proper storage.
- Manage the ship’s inventory of essential spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.
Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)
- Oversee safe navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping in compliance with international maritime regulations.
- Supervise the planning, loading, stowage, and securing of heavy cargo, ensuring stability and proper weight distribution.
- Coordinate ballasting and de-ballasting operations to maintain vessel stability during cargo handling.
- Communicate and coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and onshore personnel during loading, unloading, and berthing.
- Oversee the execution of risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency response drills.
- Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and company safety management system (SMS) requirements.
- Monitor vessel security procedures as required by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)
- Follow health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols to ensure personal and operational safety.
- Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, man-overboard, and containment of hazardous situations.
- Work as part of a collaborative, high-performance team to ensure smooth and safe vessel operations.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in living quarters, working spaces, and operational areas.
- Comply with maritime security protocols and follow procedures to prevent unauthorized access to the vessel.
- Adapt to changing weather and environmental conditions while maintaining focus on operational safety.
