Martide’s partners are seeking skilled maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard general cargo ships. Crew members are responsible for ensuring the safe handling, stowage, and discharge of cargo, as well as the maintenance and smooth operation of the vessel. Positions are available across deck, engine, and bridge departments, each contributing to the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the ship.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):
Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)
- Assist in the safe loading, securing, and discharge of general cargo using lifting equipment, lashings, and securing devices.
- Handle and maintain cargo handling gear such as slings, spreaders, and lashing equipment.
- Conduct cargo inspections to identify signs of damage, leakage, or improper stowage.
- Assist with mooring and unmooring operations, handling lines and supporting safe berthing procedures.
- Carry out routine deck maintenance, such as cleaning, rust removal, painting, and equipment repair.
- Follow health and safety protocols, wear PPE, and participate in emergency response drills.
Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)
- Operate, maintain, and repair the ship's propulsion systems, power generation, and auxiliary machinery.
- Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on essential systems such as engines, generators, and deck equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, such as MARPOL standards for emissions and bilge water discharge.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.
- Monitor fuel and lubricant consumption to ensure efficient operation and reduce waste.
Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)
- Oversee safe navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping to ensure compliance with international maritime regulations.
- Supervise cargo handling, loading, and discharge operations to ensure cargo is stowed and secured safely.
- Ensure vessel stability and proper ballast management during cargo operations.
- Coordinate berthing, anchoring, and pilotage operations with port authorities and terminal operators.
- Ensure compliance with ISM, MARPOL, SOLAS, and company safety management system (SMS) standards.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency response drills with the crew.
- Monitor and maintain vessel security protocols as required by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols and maritime safety regulations.
- Participate in emergency response drills, including firefighting, rescue, and containment of hazardous situations.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and collaboration to support the efficient operation of the vessel.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in living quarters, working spaces, and operational areas.
- Handle the physical and mental demands of long voyages and challenging offshore working conditions.
- Support vessel security procedures and follow protocols to prevent unauthorized access and ensure ship safety.
