Martide’s partners are seeking motivated and ambitious Deck Cadets to join their deck teams aboard a variety of vessels. This entry-level position is designed to provide hands-on training and practical experience in navigation, cargo handling, and deck operations. Under the guidance of senior officers, the Deck Cadet will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to progress toward becoming a certified Deck Officer.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Assist with navigation duties, including maintaining lookout watch on the bridge, monitoring instruments, and reporting hazards or changes in conditions.
• Support cargo operations, including loading, unloading, stowage, and securing cargo in line with vessel stability requirements.
• Participate in daily deck maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, painting, rust removal, and general upkeep of the ship’s hull, deck, and equipment.
• Assist with mooring and unmooring operations during port calls, handling lines, and following instructions from senior deck officers.
• Monitor and maintain lifesaving, firefighting, and emergency equipment, ensuring everything is in operational condition.
• Take part in onboard training programs, including safety drills, emergency response procedures, and technical workshops.
• Complete cadet logbooks, training records, and progress reports as required for certification purposes.
• Support the Chief Officer and Bosun with general deck duties and carry out tasks as assigned.
