Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard container/ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) ships. Crew members play a vital role in ensuring the safe loading, securing, and discharge of cargo, as well as maintaining vessel stability and operational efficiency. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each playing an essential role in ensuring smooth operations, cargo integrity, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)

  • Assist with the safe loading, securing, and discharge of wheeled and containerized cargo using lashings, twist locks, and wheel chocks.
    • Operate and maintain cargo handling systems, such as ramps, lifts, and rolling decks, to facilitate vehicle and container movement.
      • Conduct inspections of lashing gear, twist locks, and securing equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
        • Assist with mooring and unmooring operations, handling mooring lines and supporting safe berthing procedures.
          • Carry out routine deck maintenance, such as cleaning, painting, rust removal, and the upkeep of cargo securing equipment.
            • Follow onboard health and safety procedures, wear PPE, and participate in emergency response drills.

              Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

              • Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary machinery.
                • Monitor and support the operation of cargo ramps, hydraulic lifts, and elevator systems for vehicle movement.
                  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of reefer (refrigerated container) units, monitoring and maintaining temperatures for perishable cargo.
                    • Conduct preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
                      • Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations for emissions, bilge water, and waste management.
                        • Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.

                          Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

                          • Oversee safe navigation, passage planning, and watchkeeping in accordance with international maritime regulations.
                            • Supervise loading, discharge, and stowage operations for both containerized and roll-on/roll-off cargo.
                              • Ensure vessel stability and trim during loading/unloading through ballasting and cargo planning.
                                • Coordinate berthing, anchoring, and pilotage operations with port authorities, pilots, and terminal staff.
                                  • Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and company safety management systems (SMS).
                                    • Supervise crew safety drills and emergency response exercises, such as firefighting, evacuation, and rescue procedures.
                                      • Monitor and manage vessel security protocols in accordance with the ISPS Code.

                                        General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

                                        • Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, ensuring compliance with maritime safety standards.
                                          • Participate in emergency response drills for firefighting, rescue, and incident containment.
                                            • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working and living environment on board.
                                              • Adhere to ship security protocols under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
                                                • Foster teamwork, accountability, and collaboration to ensure smooth vessel operations.
                                                  • Demonstrate adaptability to the diverse demands of containerized cargo and ro-ro vehicle handling, ensuring cargo integrity and operational efficiency.
