Martide’s partners are seeking experienced and detail-oriented Chief Officers to take charge of deck operations and cargo management aboard their various vessels. As the second-in-command after the Captain, the Chief Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the ship. This includes overseeing cargo handling, navigation, safety drills, and the management of the deck crew.
Key responsibilities generally include:
- Oversee cargo operations, including loading, stowage, securing, and discharge, ensuring safe and efficient handling in accordance with voyage plans and stability requirements.
- Supervise, train, and manage the deck crew, assigning daily tasks and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Conduct pre-departure and arrival checks, ensuring the vessel is ready for safe navigation, port calls, and cargo handling.
- Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, including ISM, SOLAS, and MARPOL, as well as the ship’s safety management system (SMS).
- Act as the ship's Safety Officer, organizing and leading safety drills, inspections, and emergency preparedness training.
- Assist the Captain in navigation duties, standing bridge watch as required, and managing the ship’s voyage plan.
- Monitor and maintain lifesaving, firefighting, and safety equipment, ensuring all devices are in good working order.
- Maintain accurate records related to ship stability, cargo operations, safety inspections, and crew training.
