Martide’s partners are seeking highly experienced and technically skilled Chief Engineers to lead the engineering department on a variety of vessels. As the most senior technical officer on board, the Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all mechanical, electrical, and technical systems throughout the vessel.

Key responsibilities generally include:

  • Lead and manage the engineering department, ensuring all machinery and technical systems operate safely and efficiently.
    • Supervise and coordinate maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of ship propulsion, generators, HVAC, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
      • Oversee daily engine room operations, manage work schedules, and assign tasks to engineers and technicians.
        • Conduct regular inspections of machinery, safety equipment, and engineering spaces to identify maintenance needs and address any potential hazards.
          • Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other maritime safety and environmental regulations.
            • Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables, ensuring essential supplies are available for ongoing maintenance.
              • Prepare and submit technical reports to the Captain, Shipowner, and Technical Superintendent.
                • Lead the response to onboard emergencies such as engine failures, fires, and leaks, ensuring quick, effective resolution to protect the ship, crew, and environment.
                  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure timely completion of planned maintenance tasks in accordance with the ship's maintenance system.
