Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard chemical tankers. Positions are available across deck, engine, and bridge departments, each playing a critical role in ensuring safe operations, regulatory compliance, and the protection of crew, cargo, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):

Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)

  • Assist with the loading, discharge, and transfer of chemical cargo according to strict safety and operational protocols.
    • Handle cargo hoses, loading arms, and connection points, ensuring secure connections and leak prevention.
      • Carry out cleaning, gas-freeing, and inerting of cargo tanks using specialized equipment.
        • Perform regular inspections of cargo tanks, pipelines, valves, and deck equipment, reporting any defects.
          • Assist in mooring and unmooring operations during port calls.
            • Conduct general deck maintenance, such as painting, cleaning, and anti-corrosion treatments.
              • Wear appropriate PPE and participate in emergency drills, including chemical spill response and firefighting.

                Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)

                • Operate, maintain, and repair the ship's propulsion systems, power generators, and auxiliary machinery.
                  • Support the operation and maintenance of cargo handling systems, pumps, and valves for chemical cargo.
                    • Monitor and maintain cargo heating and inert gas systems to ensure proper cargo care.
                      • Conduct routine maintenance on essential safety equipment, such as gas detectors and firefighting systems.
                        • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for emissions, bilge water, and waste management.
                          • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance of critical machinery to avoid delays or operational failures.

                            Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)

                            • Oversee safe navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping duties to ensure compliance with international regulations.
                              • Supervise loading, discharging, and transfer of hazardous chemical cargo, ensuring adherence to cargo plans and stability requirements.
                                • Manage ballast and de-ballast operations to maintain vessel stability during cargo handling.
                                  • Conduct risk assessments and coordinate tank inspections to ensure compliance with ISGOTT, IBC Code, and MARPOL.
                                    • Supervise mooring, anchoring, and pilotage operations, working closely with port authorities and terminal staff.
                                      • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (ISM, MARPOL, SOLAS) and company safety management systems (SMS).
                                        • Lead emergency response drills for scenarios like chemical spills, fire, and collision.

                                          General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)

                                          • Follow health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, ensuring compliance with the IBC Code for chemical tankers.
                                            • Participate in emergency drills, with readiness for firefighting, chemical spill containment, and evacuation procedures.
                                              • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safe living and working conditions on board.
                                                • Comply with ISPS Code security procedures to ensure vessel security and access control.
                                                  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cargo handling procedures, including compatibility checks and chemical reactivity awareness.
                                                    • Work as part of a collaborative, safety-first team focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
