Martide’s partners are seeking experienced maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard car carrier vessels. Positions are available for deck, engine, and bridge crew, with each role playing a critical part in ensuring smooth operations, vessel stability, and cargo integrity throughout the voyage.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):
Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)
- Assist with the loading, unloading, and lashing of vehicles in accordance with cargo plans and safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain cargo handling equipment such as ramps, lifts, and vehicle decks.
- Ensure vehicles are secured using lashing straps, wheel chocks, and other cargo securing systems.
- Carry out routine inspections of lashing gear and report any defects or damage to senior crew.
- Handle mooring and unmooring operations in port, ensuring safe berthing procedures.
- Perform routine deck maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and rust removal.
- Adhere to onboard health and safety protocols and participate in emergency response drills.
Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)
- Operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion systems, power generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Support the operation and maintenance of cargo ramps, lifts, and hydraulic systems used for vehicle movement.
- Monitor and maintain ventilation systems required to manage air quality in vehicle decks.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations for emissions, bilge water, and waste management.
- Supervise the management of spare parts, consumables, and repair tools for critical machinery.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections to minimize mechanical failures during the voyage.
Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)
- Oversee navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping to ensure safe passage.
- Monitor and supervise loading, unloading, and securing of vehicle cargo, ensuring vessel stability and trim.
- Plan and manage ballast operations to maintain ship stability during cargo operations.
- Ensure compliance with cargo plans, port regulations, and vessel loading limits.
- Supervise mooring, berthing, and unberthing operations, coordinating with pilots and port authorities.
- Oversee crew safety, conduct risk assessments, and lead emergency response drills.
- Maintain vessel records and ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL).
General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)
- Adhere to safety protocols, wear PPE, and comply with company and international maritime regulations.
- Participate in emergency response drills and maintain readiness for firefighting, evacuation, and rescue procedures.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety in all living and working areas.
- Comply with international regulations related to cargo handling, pollution prevention, and ISPS security.
- Adapt to the unique challenges of transporting high-value vehicle cargo, ensuring cargo integrity throughout the voyage.
