Martide’s partners are seeking highly skilled and experienced First Engineers to join the engineering teams aboard their vessels. As the second-in-command of the engine department, the First Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the ship’s propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems. This role requires technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to manage both planned maintenance and emergency repairs.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of the ship’s main engine, generators, boilers, and auxiliary machinery.
• Supervise daily work schedules for the engine crew, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion of maintenance activities.
• Ensure all shipboard mechanical and electrical systems operate efficiently and in compliance with international maritime regulations, including ISM, SOLAS, and MARPOL.
• Conduct regular inspections of propulsion systems, power generation equipment, pumps, and hydraulics to identify potential issues before they lead to downtime.
• Lead troubleshooting and emergency repairs for key systems, ensuring the safety and operational readiness of the ship.
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer to plan preventive maintenance and maintain detailed records of completed work.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior engineers, engine cadets, and technical crew members.
• Monitor fuel, oil, and lubricant usage, ensuring that proper inventory is maintained throughout the voyage.
• Support emergency response operations, including fire-fighting, flood containment, and mechanical failure management.
