Martide’s partners are seeking skilled and dedicated maritime professionals to fill various ranks and positions aboard merchant ships. Crew members play a critical role in maintaining the ship’s safety, navigation, and operational efficiency. Positions are available in deck, engine, and bridge departments, each playing a vital part in ensuring smooth vessel operations, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery of cargo.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (varies by role and rank):
Deck Crew (Able Seafarers, Deckhands, Bosun)
- Assist with the safe loading, securing, and unloading of general cargo, containerized goods, and bulk materials.
- Operate and maintain cargo handling gear, such as cranes, winches, lashings, and securing equipment.
- Handle and maintain mooring lines during berthing, unberthing, and anchoring operations.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repair of deck equipment, including cleaning, painting, and rust removal.
- Assist with cargo inspections, reporting damage, defects, or unsafe conditions.
- Support safety procedures during cargo handling, wear PPE, and participate in emergency response drills.
Engineering Crew (Wipers, Motormen, Engineers, Chief Engineer)
- Operate, maintain, and repair the ship’s propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems.
- Monitor and maintain essential machinery, such as engines, generators, compressors, and ballast systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures to ensure continuous operation.
- Conduct preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and ensure smooth vessel operations.
- Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations for bilge water, emissions, and waste management.
- Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and emergency repair equipment.
Bridge Crew (Watch Officers, 2nd Officer, Chief Officer, Captain)
- Oversee safe navigation, voyage planning, and watchkeeping in compliance with international maritime regulations.
- Supervise cargo loading, unloading, and securing operations to ensure compliance with cargo plans.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety briefings, and emergency drills for crew safety and security.
- Supervise ballast and de-ballasting operations to maintain vessel stability and ensure proper trim.
- Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and terminal operators for berthing, unberthing, and cargo operations.
- Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ship's safety management system (SMS).
- Oversee vessel security, access control, and adherence to the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
General Responsibilities (All Ranks and Positions)
- Follow health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols to protect crew members and the environment.
- Participate in emergency response drills, such as firefighting, man-overboard, and rescue procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safe working conditions in crew living quarters, working spaces, and operational areas.
- Handle the physical and mental demands of working at sea for extended periods.
- Support teamwork, accountability, and collaboration to ensure smooth vessel operations.
- Adhere to international regulations, company policies, and the ship's safety management system (SMS).
